As of Aug. 12, 2021, by order of the Travis County Judge, masks are required in all Travis County buildings. 

The tax office is limiting in-person services to drive-thru or appointment only. We continue to offer services by mail, by phone at 512-854-9473 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Staffing shortages may occur due to health and safety measures in place to protect our employees and customers. This can result in longer than normal wait times in our drive-thru and for your appointment. 

Drive-thru services

The following drive-thru services are available at the Main Tax Office located at 5501 Airport Blvd, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Pflugerville Tax Office located at 15822 Foothill Farms Loop, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Southeast Austin Tax Office at 4011 McKinney Falls Parkway, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.*: 

  • Vehicle registration renewal
  • 30-day or one-trip temporary permits
  • Placards for persons with disabilities
  • Property tax payments

* Drive-thru hours may vary, and lanes are subject to early closure when we reach capacity or experience equipment failures. We do not accept proof of insurance on your cell phone in the drive-thru. A paper copy must be provided. 

By appointment services

The following services are available at the Main Tax Office located at 5501 Airport Blvd. by appointment only:

  • Vehicle title transfers, including new residents to Texas
  • Specialty license plate ordering and pick-up
  • Vehicle registration renewal
  • Placards for persons with disabilities
  • Property tax payments and payment plans
  • Payments and payment plans for dealer's special inventory tax
  • Beer and wine permits

The following services are available at the Pflugerville Tax Office located at 15822 Foothill Farms Loop and the Oak Hill Tax Office located at 8657 W HWY 71, Building B.

  • Vehicle title transfers, including new residents to Texas
  • Vehicle registration renewal
  • Placards for persons with disabilities

Motor vehicle services

The state of Texas has provided extensions and waivers for motor vehicle registration and title transactions. Find the latest information about waivers of motor vehicle requirements in response to COVID-19 from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the Texas Comptroller.

Vehicle registration renewal

You may renew:

  • Online at Texas.gov 48 hours after you have your vehicle inspected. You can renew online up to 9 months after your registration is expired unless you received a citation for expired registration.
  • In person with a vehicle registration partner such as AAA, HEB or Fiesta Mart after you have your vehicle inspected (expiration must be for the current or following month and the three part renewal form is required)
  • By mailing your renewal notice with a copy of your Vehicle Inspection Report and proof of insurance to:

30-day or one-trip temporary permits

  • Available at our drive-thru locations
  • Proof of insurance for the vehicle is required
  • Must pay for the permit with cash

72-hour and 144-hour permits for commercial vehicles

Placards for persons with disabilities

Apply for a new placard

You must apply for your disabled parking placard in the county where you reside unless you are temporarily living in a different county while you seek medical attention.

Requirements

To apply for a "permanent" (blue) placard or "temporary" (red) placard, you will need form VTR-214
You must:

  1. Ask your doctor or health care provider to write a prescription
  2. Submit the completed application form VTR-214, a copy of your Texas Driver's License, the original prescription by mail to:

Note: the fee for a temporary (red) placard is $5.

Renew a permanent blue placard

To renew a "permanent" (blue) placard, you must:

  1. Complete form VTR-214
  2. Submit the completed application, a copy of your Texas Driver's License and a copy or picture of your existing placard by mail to:

Recording a lien

  • Download and complete form 130-U and mail the form, vehicle title and a check or money order for $33 to:

Clearing a title rejection

Filing a mechanic's lien

  • Mail all applicable document with a $25 filing fee to:

Dealer transactions

Dealer drop off and pick up

  • Drop off dealer transactions at 5501 Airport Blvd. Monday - Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. using the dealer drop box at the South entrance.
  • Pick up receipts and license plates inside our lobby from Monday - Friday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Find the latest information about waivers of motor vehicle requirements in response to COVID-19 from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the Texas Comptroller.
